How long does a painting project take in Austin?
Most projects take 3 to 5 days. Here is what moves that number.
By Kris Bohman, Owner, Hill Country Painting. Updated November 2026.
A typical interior, exterior or cabinet project takes our crew 3 to 5 days, including a 3,000 square foot interior. Prep and scope decide where in that range yours falls.
What changes the timeline
- Prep. Patching, sanding and priming take longer than painting. A house with drywall repair or texture work adds days.
- Scope. Walls only is faster than walls, ceilings, trim and doors. Every extra surface adds time.
- Size and layout. Room count, ceiling height and how much needs to be moved or masked.
- Weather (exteriors). Rain and humidity affect drying and curing, so we plan exterior projects around the forecast.
- Repairs found mid-job. Rotted wood or damaged stucco has to be fixed before painting and can extend the schedule.
